As René Lalique progressively turned his attention to glass, he began an association with his friend François Coty for whom he created perfume bottles that, for the first time ever, expressed the personality of each fragrance, universally changing the way perfumes were packaged, presented and sold.
Edith Wilson, the wife of U.S. President Woodrow Wilson, was presented with a magnificent brooch made of 8 opalescent doves of peace set in a tree of diamond branches on the occasion of her visit to France in 1918.

However, glass collectors consider Lalique user-friendly because his pieces are not all elaborate works of art, but available decorative items.
While Lalique's unique glass pieces and his art nouveau jewelry regularly sell in the six-figure range, Nick reports that the innovative glass designer mass-produced enough glass to make much of it affordable.
For more information about Lalique and his art, see Nick's book, Lalique Glass, published by Crown Publishers in 1986.
