Performing arts - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The performing arts differ from the plastic arts insofar as the former uses the artist's own body, face and/or presence as a medium while the latter uses materials such as clay, metal or paint which can be molded or transformed to create some art object.
The performing arts include theater, motion pictures, drama, comedy, music, dance, opera, magic and the marching arts, such as brass bands, etc. Artists who participate in these arts are called performers, including actors, comedians, singers, dancers, and musicians.
There is also a specialized form of fine art in which the artist performs his or her work live to an audience.

U.S. Copyright Office - Performing Art Works Registration
Performing arts works are intended to be “performed” directly before an audience or indirectly “by means of any device or process.” Included are (1) musical works, including any accompanying words; (2) dramatic works, such as scripts, including any accompanying music; (3) pantomimes and choreographic works; and (4) motion pictures and other audiovisual works.
Make sure your work is a performing arts work.
Note: Performing arts registration is not the same as registering a sound recording.

 The Arts
Music is the art concerned with combining vocal or instrumental sounds for beauty of form or emotional expression, usually according to cultural standards of rhythm, melody, harmony, form.
The term may be used in connection with any branch of the arts -- for example music, literature, and theater -- but more commonly refers to an individual who practises the visual arts or fine arts.
The relationship between the artist and their audience is the space where a work of art is interpreted and responded to.

 WetFeet.com > Career Profile > Performing Arts
Those who do well in the performing arts are creative, expressive individuals who are passionate about their craft.
While other artists, such as writers or visual artists like sculptors or painters, are focused on producing artistic products, like short stories or paintings, for performing artists at least part of the focus is on giving audiences artistic performances.
As a result, the majority of performing artists supplement their incomes with one or more additional jobs.
