 TheMovieBoy Review - Paparazzi (2004)
As Rex, the head of his paparazzi gang, Tom Sizemore (2003's "Dreamcatcher") does everything but stroke his mustache to alert the viewer he is the villain.
As viewers, we are supposed to root for Bo and cheer him on when he dispatches of his adversaries, but his despicable criminal conduct makes him no more innocent than those harassing him.
As directed by Paul Abascal and written by Forrest Smith (both making their feature debuts), it is a substandard thriller more interested in exploiting its subject matter than exploring it in any legitimate way.

Then Paparazzi is just for you -- a critically maligned, morally repugnant yet primitively satisfying thriller in which a rising action star (Cole Hauser) gets revenge on the tabloid photographers who stalk him every day, ruining his private life and nearly killing his wife (Robin Tunney) and young son.
Subsequently, he's packed up his family and moved to the suburbs of LA to be closer to the set for his new picture (predictably, Adrenaline Force 2).
Laramie runs afoul of photojournalist Rex Harper (the always-slimy Tom Sizemore), who convinces three of his friends to help him put Laramie in his place.

But, in France, some media said Monday that several of the photographers involved in the pursuit were legitimate news photographers, and not paparazzi, the commercial photographers who trail celebrities and sell their pictures to the highest bidder.

 Filmtracks: Paparazzi (Brian Tyler)
There is substantial malice throughout the Paparazzi score, both in the pace of the rhythms and in the extensive mixing process during which Tyler highlighted the harsher edges of each instrumental section.
Composer Mark Isham had originally been attached to Paparazzi, but given the desires of the director, Isham could not have been a more ill-advised choice (especially with his Twisted score earlier in the year being completely devoid of rhythm or theme).
For the score, Abascal wanted music that was both highly aggressive in rhythm and thematic in style.

Now I generally favor longer soundtrack albums when possible, as I find that they bring the listener closer to the work the composer intended.
This is not Tyler's intention this time around, however, as he only occasionally hints at the theme throughout the rest of the score.

 Howstuffworks "How Paparazzi Work"
Paparazzi are photographers who tirelessly hunt celebrities, public figures and their families for the opportunity to photograph them in candid, unflattering and at times compromising moments.
The word "paparazzi" is derived from a character in the Fellini film "La Dolce Vita." The character, a photographer named Paparazzo, reminded Fellini of "a buzzing insect, hovering, darting, stinging."
These photos started a trend in European publications, moving away from posed promotional shots of celebrities and toward surreptitiously captured candid photos.
