 Le Charivari
According to information by Gil Stora taken from Jacques Hellemans "Le Charivari Belge et Napoléon III " Le livre et l'estampe, XXXIX1993, N°139 Brussels, an artist by the name of Mangioni was, most probably, responsible for copying the prints from the French newspaper version onto the stone.
The word CHARIVARI can be traced back to the 17th century, when Italian artist A. CARACCI drew so-called “ritratti caricati”, absurd portraits and figures, literally translated: overloaded portraits.
Some of the traditional “musical” groups are hundreds of years old and still carry the name Charivari today.

 ARTKids - ARTAges Pre-Modern Age
The works of such 17th-century painters as Caravaggio, the Dutch genre painters, the Spanish painters José de Ribera, Diego Velázquez, and Francisco de Zurbarán, and the Le Nain brothers in France are realist in approach.
Monet's painting "Impression: Sunrise" (1872; Muse Marmot, Paris) earned the initially derisive name "Impressionists" from the journalist Louis Leroy writing in the satirical magazine Le Charivari in 1874.
In the visual arts, for example, realism can be found in ancient Hellenistic Greek sculptures accurately portraying boxers and decrepit old women.

 Geometry.Net - Artists: Monet Claude
Louis Leroy in the magazine Le Charivari scoffed at the Monet's painting using for the first time in the history the term Impressionists.
His youth was spent in Le Havre, where he first excelled as a caricaturist but was then converted to landscape painting by his early mentor Boudin, from whom he derived his firm predilection for painting out of doors.
He was a successful caricaturist in his native Le Havre, but after studying plein-air landscape painting, he moved to Paris in 1859.

 Honore Daumier - Mr. Joliv
A master painter and sculptor, Daumier will always be best remembered for his incredible lithographs, particularly those published by Le Charivari from the early 1830's onwards.
Like all early Daumier lithographs, this work of art is scarce.
This was the Golden Age of French satirical art.

 Charivari
But Charivari also draws deeply on the rich Cajun experience in all its dimensions, expressing in their music the joys and sorrows of a people who embrace and celebrate all of life's possibilities.
The band Charivari generates the same kind of unpredictable fun and excitement, rooted in Cajun tradition and energized by young musicians who clearly love to perform.
The shot immediately above of Zach Huval on accordion was taken when he performed with the Huval Family Band at the 2000 Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival.

 Welcome To Charivari
Mitchell's musical journey in the Acadian Prairies of his ancestors led to a chance meeting with Randy "Frisson" Vidrine at one of Marc Savoy's jam sessions in Eunice, and a creative partnership was born that has lasted for over 15 years.
He is the first and best in his generation to embrace the old style and capture it's intensity without loosing it's spontaneity.
His understanding of the "big picture" and his reverence for this music, make him the perfect bassist for Charivari.

Regency Reader' s Corner:A Bride of 1812: Miss Muffin Gets Married:charivari, bride, Georgian, Regency, Canada, ...
The young men in the community who had not been invited to the wedding got up for the entertainment of the guests, the discordant notes obtained by the hammering on the mould-board of a plough, or from some equally crude musical instrument.
Courtship, Nabbing a Husband, The Ceremony, Charivari, Who was Miss Muffin?
Tables were ornamented with flowers if possible and featured with a three or four storied wedding cake in the centre, a piece of which, by the mid-19th century, young ladies would carry home to be placed under their pillow at night, in order that they might get a vision of their future husbands.

 MSN Encarta - Daumier
His sculptures in plaster and bronze, used as models for his drawings of people, are much sought after by collectors and galleries.
He later satirized bourgeois society in a series of lithographs published in the journal Le Charivari and returned to satirizing political subjects during the Revolution of 1848.
One of these caricatures, published in 1832, showed Louis Philippe, king of France, as Gargantua and resulted in Daumier's imprisonment for six months.
