Flemish School Art - Artists, Artworks and Biographies
The Flemish style of art began in the 15th century and was inspired by the manuscript illumination and art of the Burgundian court.
After the 17th century, Flemish art declined with the emergence of the French Rococo style.
The first center of Flemish art was Bruges, recieving this reputation with the help of Hubert and Jan van Eyck in the 15th century.

FLEMISH LITERATURE - LoveToKnow Article on FLEMISH LITERATURE
Finally in 1886 a Flemish Academy was established by royal authority at Ghent, where a course in Flemish literature had been established as early as 1854.
He was born at Wambeke in Brabant in 1857, and became professor in the academy of the fine arts at Antwerp.
As archivist of Antwerp he made use of his opportunities by writing a history of Flemish letters.

French Flemish does not enjoy any official recognition in France, with the exception of a Ministerial memorandum of 1982, which was supposed to facilitate teaching of the language.
Only 5% of young people said that they often used Flemish, in comparison with 54% of their parents; 23% of young people used Flemish sometimes, in comparison with 22% of parents; and finally, 72% of young people said they never used Flemish, in comparison with 54% of parents.
According to our correspondent, Flemish plays no part in legislation, except in the Savary Memorandum (Ministerial Memorandum 82-261 of 211982), which promised financial support for the teaching of regional languages in schools and universities for a period of three years.

 Flemish working woman's dress
A upper-class Flemish woman from the same time period is also shown in a painting by Lucas van Leyden with this type of gown construction, proving that a V-front closure was at least present in higher social spheres, and therefore, was likely to appear in working class dress as well.
The first thing that I noticed when looking at the paintings of Flemish lower-class dress was when the hemline of the dress was visible below the apron, a majority of the skirts appeared to not be split in the front (although quite a few did fit the open style described in the original article).
Another clue can be found in a Flemish genre painting that I noticed on Drea Leed's site, where next to our working woman, we see a small child who is wearing a V-front garment.

Constructing a 16th Century Flemish Ensemble
The gowns I studied in Flemish paintings looked to be made of wool, every one of them.
Colors commonly found in paintings of lower-class Flemish women include olive green, brown, medium blue, rust, tan, cream, gold, golden-orange, a warm brick red, sage green, mulberry, and coral pink.
I made my smock based on the extant linen smock shown to the right, which has been dated to 1570 and closely resembles the smocks worn by Flemish women in Genre paintings of the time.

THE RISE OF THE FLEMISH FAMILIES IN SCOTLAND
But it might be sensible to paint out that Cameroen (Flemish for Cambron), which is one of the earliest forms of the name, is a small place in Hainaut, less than five miles from Lens where Count Lambert, grandfather of Queen Maud of Scotland, had his home.
As their own distinctive crescents show, Seier de Seton and his brother Walter sprang from a second son of the house of Boulogne, Count Lambert de Lens who was the grandfather of Scotland’s Queen Maud.
Earlier than either of these moves, it went to the Firth of Forth where Queen Maud’s premier Flemish relative, her uncle Seier “de Seton” built his great place for the protection of herself and her heirs.

 Flemish Working-Class Dress
The bodice was made from the Tudor bodice pattern in Jean Hunnisett's Period Costume for Stage and Screeen, and the skirt is gored with a few pleats controlling the fullness in the back.
I had originally planned on using the russet wool for the overdress and peach linen for the kirtle, but I changed my mind after noticing quite a few pink or peach gowns being worn by women in the Flemish genre paintings.
For the first time, I feel like I have made historical clothing instead of a historical costume...

Flanders - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A distinct Flemish literature already began in the 19th century, with writers and poets as Guido Gezelle, whom not only explicitly referred to his writings as Flemish, but actually used it in many of his poems, and strongly defended it:
This distinction in literature is also made by experts, such as Kris Humbeeck, professor in Literature of the University of Antwerp, as can be noted here.
This designation finds its root in the romantic nationalism of the 19th century but later got a more pejorative meaning, which is now overcome.

For 10 years Chad has been producing work in his bedroom, playing all the instruments, and has amassed hundreds of songs.

After the 1940s, the psychological novel came to typify Flemish literature.
Dutch and Flemish literature expanded on European lines, with the novelists Jacob van Lennep, Anna Bosboom-Toussaint, Eduard Dekker, and the Belgian Hendrik Conscience, and the poets Isaäc Da Costa, Hendrik Tollens, Everhardus Potgieter, and the Belgians Guido Gezelle, Albrecht Rodenbach, Pol de Mont, and Nicolaas Beets.
