Cubism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cubism was an avant-garde art movement that revolutionized European painting and sculpture in the early 20th century.
In cubist artworks objects are broken up,analyzed, and reassembled in an abstracted form — instead of rendering objects from a single fixed angle, the artist depicts the subject from multiple angles simultaneously as an attempt to present the subject in the most complete manner.
It became popular so quickly that by 1910 critics were referring to a "cubist school" of artists influenced by Braque and Picasso.

In the Skin of a Lion as a Cubist Novel
In a Cubist painting, according to Berger, 'the complexity of the forms and the ''discontinuity'' of space remind [the spectator] that his view from that place is bound to be only partial' ('The Moment of Cubism,' 25).
Although the style of Ondaatje's novel can only be called Cubist in a qualified sense, its subject matter seems to be underpinned by Berger's idiosyncratic notion of the Cubist historical moment, which extends beyond the confines of formalist art analysis to include an ideological interpretation of the painting and its period.
In Berger's terms, Cubist space does not 'dissolve' the surface of the picture plane, but is as solid as the objects themselves, thereby emphasizing the materiality of the canvas on which the objects are painted.

French Culture Books Guillaume Apollinaire: The Cubist Painters (University of California Press Oct 2004)
French poet Guillaume Apollinaire's only book on art, The Cubist Painters, was first published in 1913.
This essential text in twentieth-century art presents the poet and critic's aesthetic meditations on nine painters: Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Jean Metzinger, Albert Gleizes, Marie Laurencin, Juan Gris, Fernand Léger, Francis Picabia, and Marcel Duchamp.
He examines Apollinaire's art criticism, his relationship to the Cubist movement, and, more specifically, the genesis of Cubist Painters through its various revisions and proofs.

It was Lipchitz who embraced the movement's language and consistently translatedits ideologies into sculptural forms.A Jewish immigrant, Lipchitz arrived in Paris in 1909 where he established himself as one of the capital's most successful avant-garde artists.

 [No title]
The cubist's influenced by Paul Cezanne and the amateur painter Henri Rousseau followed and depicted nature with the flowing freedom of line and a repetitive order of structure.
Their style of work had never been seen before, distorted portraits and landscapes opened the door for new styles of art.
Cubism broke the consistence of modern art by, producing something outrageously different.

 cubism
The leaders in the cubist era were Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque.
Cubism itself follows Paul Cezanne statement that "Everything in nature takes its form from the sphere, the cone, and the cylinder." in which these 3 shapes are used to depict the object of the painting.
The Cubism period stated in Paris in 1908, reached its peak in 1914, and continued into the 20's.

 Joseph Gusfield, Cubist Sociologist
Picasso said that cubism is: "an art dealing primarily with forms, and when a form is realized it is there to live its own life." Ditto, I would say, for status politics, and all the rest of the forms, concepts, and ideas that Gusfield allows to live their own life in his work.
In the book A Concise History of Modern Painting, the art historian Sir Herbert Read points out that cubist painters stayed within the boundaries of painting as it had always been practiced, but that cubists painted their subjects emphasizing different things.
This multi-focus, multi-foreground scholarship is, I repeat, legitimately conceptualized as cubist sociology.

 Cubist Style Rendering from Photographs
The contribution of this paper is a novel nonphotorealistic rendering (NPR) technique, influenced by the style of Cubist art.
Specifically, we are motivated by artists such as Picasso and Braque, who produced art work by composing elements of a scene taken from multiple points of view; paradoxically, such compositions convey a sense of motion without assuming temporal dependence between views.
Before composing features into a final image, we geometrically distort them to produce the more angular forms common in Cubist art.

 Cubist Architecture in Prague
Their position on cubism, and on modern art in general, was far from homogeneous.
The development of cubist architecture in Prague is most closely associated with Pavel Janák (1882-1956), the movement's major theoretician, who, writing in 1912, rejected the geometric style of Kotěra and Wagner in favour of something which gave freer play to the imaginative powers of human creativity:
By the end of the nineteenth century, the National Revival had had considerable success in re-creating a Czech culture, building a number of Czech institutions, and fostering a revival of spoken Czech, particularly by emphasizing traditional Czech customs, work habits, artistic styles, folk music, and story telling.

BBC NEWS World Europe Prague restores grand Cubist cafe
Cubism was first formulated by Pablo Picasso and George Braque in Paris and was soon taken up enthusiastically by Czech architects and designers, who made their own distinctive contribution to the style.
Czech artists were then at the forefront of the European avant-garde, and were quick to latch on to the latest artistic developments.
During the 1910s and 1920s, artists such as Josef Gocar, Pavel Janak, Josef Chochol and Vlastislav Hofman applied Cubist principles to architecture and domestic artefacts.

All three characters, which figure importantly in the history of painting and in Picasso's own earlier work, are derived from Italian, French, and Spanish popular theater and carnival traditions, but the artist had also encountered them more directly during recent visits to Italy as the set designer for Sergei Diaghilev's ballet.
Three Musicians provides a grand summation of Pablo Picasso's decade-long exploration of Synthetic Cubism, with its flat, patterned shapes, although painted in oil, echoing the cut and pasted papers of his collages of the period.
Music was a favorite Cubist theme, and here Picasso equips Harlequin with a violin, Pierrot with a recorder, and the monk with an accordion.

Olivia Tremor Control: Dusk at Cubist Castle: Pitchfork Review
Aside from granting the album an air of timelessness, Dusk's saturated 4-track production always leaves me with the feeling that there's more to this album than can possibly be heard.
This, the band's debut album, represents their most fundamental integration of these two impulses-- never does the record's sonic palette seem like an afterthought to the songs, nor do the songs themselves seem like haphazard carriers for carefully chosen sounds.
As its title suggests, there's something intensely cinematic about the record, and also something perpetually incomplete-- the images and ideas evoked stay with you much longer than the album itself.

Interview with Scott Rocklage, Cubist Pharmaceuticals: TWST
Rocklage: Cubist was founded in 1993 by two professors from MIT with the mission of discovering novel anti-infectives to treat serious and life-threatening infections, particularly those caused by resistant bacteria and fungi.
Rocklage: Cubist’s product, Cidecin, appears at this time to be the most advanced product in development to treat these kinds of serious and life-threatening infections.
Since that point in time, Cubist has been able to develop a pipeline of drug candidates that are active against drug-resistant pathogens and have the potential to treat serious and life-threatening infections.
