This was worn undecorated for her wedding, but as a married woman grew in status at her husband's home, she enriched her itshogolo with beadwork.
Blankets of particular patterns were also used as cloaks, and their large expanse provided the basis for some of the richest demonstrations of the Ndebele beaders art.
If materials such s coloured plastic cloth, tape or beads, bright feathers, metal jewellery and commercial paint colours are used by Ndebele women to adorn themselves and their homes, in preference to glass beads and earth colours, these are yet other instances of the adoption of new resources.

Esther is a famous Ndebele artist who has painted Ndebele designs on airplanes, Mercedes Benzes, etc. She was at an art exhibit in Europe, so I missed her.

My Grandmother, Eulalia (Brisbois) LaFriniere, taught me beadwork and wrote a book titled "Modern Indian Beadwork Necklaces" dedicated to my Grandpa, Wilfred LaFriniere, and their eleven children.
