 Gale - Gale 2002 - Free Resources - Reference Reviews - Archives
Artcyclopedia deserves praise not only in cases of the best known artists where the most relevant sites are relatively easy to line up and link to, but also for artists who are lesser known and whose works sell for far less than those of the Flemish and Italian masters.
While Artcyclopedia is not a substitute for the incredibly rich Dictionary of Art database, it is a superb free tool when you need access to digital versions of works of art.
These are specially commissioned for the Artcyclopedia, so it is reasonable that the site also displays ad banners within the list of sites that have works from the artists.

 Artifact: Full Record for Artcyclopedia
Description: Artcyclopedia aims to pull together every work of art available online by artists of "museum-quality"; that is, the artist must be represented in the art collection of, or be part of a major exhibit at, an appropriate fine art museum.
The focus is on fine art painting and sculpture, but photography, decorative arts, installation art, video art, digital and web-based art, naive art/folk art/outsider art and architecture are also included in many cases.
Additionally, Artcyclopedia has a "Monthly Feature" page on topics such as 'Women in the Arts', 'The Golden Art of Illustration' and 'Sculpture': for each topic there is a featured artist, museum site, online exhibit, book and print.
